Your First Visit

When you first call to make an appointment with Dr. Lara Martin, she will get some basic information from you including your insurance information so have your card available. She will then get an appointment set up for you and will call the insurance company to verify your benefits within 24 hours. Once benefits are verified, you can expect a confirmation call or email detailing what your naturopathic coverage will be.

New patient forms can be found here. Please print them, fill them out and sign necessary forms prior to your appointment. If you do not have a printer available, please come 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork.

Feel comforted, listened to, and cared for.

A key tenant of natural medicine is the connection between mind, body, lifestyle, nutrition, and person. We believe that medicine should be delivered on a personal basis. In a traditional Western medicine environment, there’s intense pressure on physicians to increase billable services on patients. Because of this, the agenda of these physicians is often to see as many patients as possible within a given day. In this environment, many patients feel anonymous or like “cattle”… being pushed through the corral only to see the Doctor for 5 minutes before they’re off to their next patient.

At Balanced Family Natural Medicine, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Dr. Martin’s initial visit with you is about getting to know you; your health history, your nutritional & dietary habits, your family health history, your personality.

The initial visit will include a thorough medical intake to obtain a comprehensive health history. Dr. Martin will also perform a complete physical exam during this visit with emphasis on whatever your chief complaint is. She will also order any lab work or imaging that will aid in development of your treatment plan. It is often helpful to bring any old medical records that you have at home to this first visit. Treatment at this appointment will most likely be very basic so Dr. Martin can take some time to get to know your case and get any pertinent labwork back before deciding on the best course of treatment. Most initial visits are approximately 60-90 minutes.
